FLUOROCARBON-FREE - WE PROMISED. WE DELIVERED.
For the majority of waterproof clothing, water repellency is achieved by treating fabrics with fluorocarbon-based Durable Water Repellents (DWRs). However, the fluorocarbons they contain leach slowly from the fabrics and enter the water system. Over time they bioaccumulate in the environment and into the food chain, with the potential to disrupt the immune system, fertility and foetal development of both wildlife and human beings.
Traditional DWRs are made up of C6 or C8 long-chain chemicals. We had been using C6 for the past five years, which is comparatively better than C8 due to its ability to break down over time, making it slower to bioaccumulate. As a business we are by no means perfect, nor do we have all the answers, but in the face of an ever changing landscape, we always seek and commit to the best and most sustainable way of making our product. Last year we announced our commitment as a business towards eliminating fluorocarbons from our waterproof range by the end of 2017. We believed it was attainable and we're proud to have made it a reality.

This coat is waterproof! No doubt about. I can wear layers underneath for frosty weather or wear over a couple layers for the warmer months.

Just spent a few days on a rainy city break and stayed dry in this jacket, favourite feature was special hand pockets. The only improvements I could suggest are an inside security pocket and a deeper hood, I had my hair up in a high pony and felt like my face wasn't shielded enough from rain because hood was pushed back by my hair. Other than that, a great jacket!

I’m a size 10 on the top and bottom and found this too restrictive around the bottom. A two-way zip would have allowed for more movement and some kind of soft lining would have made this more comfortable. Not for me. Sorry 😐

I ordered the Litus Waterproof Jacket for my girlfriend. I wanted something a little different from the big brands and Finisterre is such a cool brand with a nice ethos. The Coat is stylish, well made and well priced I think. It'll definitely last and My girlfriend loves it. Luckily it rained the other day so it got baptized pretty quick with some good ol' Scottish weather. It performed really good, waterproof and really breathable with room to layer a jumper underneath in winter.
Overall Customer service was great, delivery quick, very satisfied. The mens range is also pretty cool so I've dropped some hints to her and I'll be expecting something from finisterre under the Christmas tree this year.
